A big blow to the Champions League dream.

Until yesterday the Reds were buzzing and were confident with regard to the top four finish.

Chelsea and Leicester both had dropped points and we were just a win away from grabbing the 3rd position.

But all went down after United failed to seize the golden opportunity and gave away last-minute goal ending the match with just a point.

It’s always a tough fixture against Southampton and the pressure of winning the game for top 4 finish was pressing upon the players

We need dept, quality and plan B for situations like these. Just having unbeatable streak is not gonna get us anywhere.

Bruno Fernandez in action against Southampton.

Ole need to do smart signings which will help us in places we lack composure.
Bruno was a fantastic signing, we needed a personality who would handle the front line with Pogba and that place was filled by Bruno comfortably.

Dave made some amazing saves yesterday I wouldn’t blame him for the goals.
both the goals were defensive errors.

We were down to 10 men after Willams and Luke Shaw had to be taken off.
It was heartbreaking to concede in the closing minutes of the game.

Even though Ole’s men failed to take more than 1 point yesterday, the top 4 race continues to be as tight as ever.

United are just 1 point behind Chelsea and head-to-head with Leicester.

Rashford scored an equalizer.

We have just 3 games to go and one of them is against Leicester.

SHAW AND WILLIAMS INJURY UPDATE
Shaw twisted his ankle, it was a dangerous sight considering his brutal leg break back in 2018.

Luke: “I was close to losing my leg” he said when he got injured PSV Eindhoven in 2018.

Yesterday Shaw twisted his ankle when he dove in the box to collect Rashford’s pass and Brandon Williams suffered a nasty gash after he collided with Kyle Walker-Peters

“Luke twisted his ankle,” said the manager, at his post-match press conference. “Hopefully, we can have some good news on him after we’ve done a scan.”

“In a separate interview with MUTV, Ole added: “I can’t say [really], I’ve not seen Brandon because he was with the medical staff and I think he was getting some stitches with a gash over his eye.

“So let’s see how he is.”

Defensive error that probably led to the last minute goal.

Post-match interview
Ole believes the players will learn a harsh lesson from not seeing the match out but it will stand us in good stead for the challenges to come.

“I have to say the mentality of the boys has been brilliant,” said the manager. “We’ve had a few setbacks over the season, of course, and this is another challenge for us. I’m very confident in the mentality of them.

“I’m very disappointed of course, but you have to take the disappointments, as well as the positives when you win games. Of course, the disappointment with this is when it’s one of the last kicks of the ball and you concede a goal and you lose two points.

“That’s part of football and we’ve learnt a hard lesson, hopefully. We’ll make it right, we’ll put it right. I trust them in that respect.”

The boss would not accept the suggestion that United have failed to handle the pressure after rivals Chelsea dropped points on several occasions this season.

“Absolutely not,” he replied. “I don’t think any of our players have been thinking about: ‘Oh what have Chelsea done this weekend.’ Not at all. It’s just the way the games go.

“We all play against the same teams and we all have 38 games to go through and it will even itself out during the long season. You’ll deserve the position you get in the end.”

“We have to keep our head up, we have three games to go. The next one is Crystal Palace on Thursday, if we win the last three games we are in the Champions League,”

Nemanja Matic
